Effects of Overexposure:

Inhalation:

Inhalation of dust may cause coughing, respiratory tract irritation, dyspnea, and pulmonary edema. May result in pain and burns of the mucous membranes of the nose, mouth, and throat. Chronic or prolonged exposure may result in ulceration of gastrointestinal tract and/or the bronchial membranes.

Skin Contact:

May cause irritation, redness, pain, and possibly burns. Repeated or prolonged exposure may result in contact dermatitis or severe burns.

Eye Contact:

May cause redness, irritation, pain, and possibly burns. Chronic exposure may result in conjunctivitis.

Ingestion:

May cause gastrointestinal irritation and abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. May be burns of the mucous membranes and associated pain. May affect speaking and or ability to breathe. No data is available regarding chronic exposure.

Emergency and First Aid Procedures:

Inhalation: Remove from exposure area to phys air immediately. If breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration. Maintain airway and blood pressure and administer oxygen, if available, given by qualified personnel. Obtain medical attention immediately.

Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Wash affected area with soap or mild detergent and large amount of water until no evidence of chemical remains. Get immediate medical attention.

Eye Contact: Wash eyes immediately with large amounts of water, occasionally lifting upper and lower lids, until no evidence of chemical remains. Washing at least 15 to 20 minutes is recommended. Continue irrigating with normal saline until pH returns to neutral.

Ingestion: Dilute immediately by giving large quantities of milk, if possible, or water. Continue to administer fluids as vomiting persists. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If vomiting occurs, keep head below the hips to prevent aspiration into the lungs. Obtain medical attention immediately.

Medical Conditions aggravated by exposure: Persons susceptible to respiratory ailments and/or disease may be further compromised by exposure to breathing dust. Individuals with dermatological sensitivities may also experience exacerbation of symptoms upon exposure.

Section VI: Reactivity Data

Stability: Stable Conditions to avoid: Heat or exposure to fire and flame.

Incompatibility (Materials to Avoid): Aluminum; strong oxidizing agents

Hazardous Decomposition Products: Thermal decomposition may release toxic oxides of sulfur, potassium, and sodium oxide. Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen oxides may also be released.

Hazardous Polymerization: None reported or expected to occur.

Section VII: Spill or Leak Procedures

Steps to be taken in case material is released or spilled: Ventilate area where spill has occurred and keep unnecessary personnel away from site. For small spills, sweep up and containerize for later disposal. For large spills, clean-up personnel should wear protective clothing and respiratory protection because of dust. Sweep up and containerize spill for reclamation or disposal.

Waste Disposal Method: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Dispose of

non-reclaimable material as hazardous waste in an approved waste disposal facility.

Section VIII: Special Protection Information

Respiratory Protection: A NIOSH-approved self-contained breathing apparatus or an air-supplied respirator are recommended for use with this product.

Ventilation: Local exhaust or a general dilution ventilation system is recommended.

Protective gloves: Appropriate gloves to prevent skin contact with this product.

Eye Protection: Chemical safety goggles.

Other Protective Equipment: Wear protective laboratory clothing or apron to prevent skin contact.

Eye wash and safety shower should be available.

Section IX: Special Precautions

Precautions to be taken in handling and storing: Store in tightly closed container in a cool, dry place with adequate ventilation.

Other Precautions: Avoid breathing dust and contact with skin or eyes.
